Now THIS is a Woman I Would Like To Meet!

Wow, holy (hopefully) similar lives batman! I just came across this great article about a woman, Martha Carter who has had an even crazier life trajectory than me. The best thing is that she’s done so much that is similar to what I hope to accomplish- always keeping her love of women, babies and health care somewhere in the equation.

Please read. It’s so fun to hear about a phenomenal woman and what they’ve put on their plates and managed to accomplish.

New Year Baby!

I’m so excited because my good friend, who incidentally is a midwife, gave birth to the New Years baby in Santa Fe-on a Blue Moon. Ms. Iris Grace was born a bit after 2am on January 1. Congrats Maite and Mike.

Increase in Preterm Birth? Why Don’t We Talk About C-Sections??

The Bulletin of the World Health Organization published a white paper on Oct. 4th 2009, addressing the concerns of the increase in preterm births worldwide.  According to the paper, over ONE MILLION babies die each year from causes related to preterm birth.

Preterm birth is defined as a baby born before 37 weeks gestation.  In the United States alone, the cost of caring for preterm babies and their associated health problems tops $26 billion annually.  Second only to Africa, North America (US and Canada) has the highest instance of preterm births in the world!
