Wow!  The blank piece of ‘paper’ seems very large and ominous, but I suppose every blogger or author has had this moment. Here it goes…

Hi Everybody. My name is Lori and for the last eight years, I have been the COO and co-owner of a smallish web development and search engine marketing company in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  I am also the mother of three children, a partner in a successful marriage to my wonderful hubby Chris, and a former teacher, social worker, waitress, and Registered Nurse.

Back in 1991 I graduated from SUNY Albany (yes, I am that old) with a degree in English and Women’s Studies. It’s the women studies portion that changed my life.  That year, I decided the best way I could help disenfranchised women was to help empower them through birth.  I wanted to be a midwife.

Well……(record scratching sound) Fast forward to 2009.  I have still not quite reached my goal.  At first the obstacle was money, then it was establishing myself in a new state, then a baby, then a marriage, then a move, and another move, then another baby.  Then I went to nursing school, and had another baby. Then I spent four years as a labor and delivery RN.  Then I decided I couldn’t  do that anymore (more on that later) and phased out of that and in to my husband’s fledgling web business.  Then, I applied for midwifery school, and then I withdrew my application due to the tanking of the economy.  Here I am today.  Whew!

This blog…On Birthing… is my latest (and greatest?) idea.  I am hoping to re-enter the birthing community, to stay on top of the news and issues, to share information with others and hopefully prepare myself for yet another career change.  Heck, it’s only been 18 years since I decided to be a midwife.  It’s poop or get off the pot.

See….It’s not that I don’t like my job.  I work from home and make my own hours.  I work for myself.  I take pride in doing a really good job for the clients we serve.  I spend a lot of time with my kids.  My clients are happy with my work, and they like me.  It’s just that there’s this rather large goal that has been nagging at me, and no matter how much I ignore it, it doesn’t go away.

So, welcome to my blog.  I hope to provide useful information and relevant commentary.  Enjoy!
